Chapter 1: My Early Years in Hadong

(제 1장: 나의 하동에서의 어린 시절)

I used to live in Hadong, Korea, a small but beautiful town surrounded by mountains and rivers. I lived there for about seven years or so and grew up in a peaceful environment. Life was simple, but it was full of warmth and joy. The town had a close-knit community where everyone knew each other. I remember running through the narrow streets, playing hide-and-seek with my friends, and visiting the small market where local farmers sold fresh fruits and vegetables.

나는 한국의 하동에서 살았었다. 하동은 산과 강으로 둘러싸인 작지만 아름다운 마을이었다. 나는 약 7년 정도 그곳에서 자랐고, 조용하고 평화로운 환경에서 성장했다. 삶은 단순했지만 따뜻함과 기쁨으로 가득 차 있었다. 우리 마을은 서로가 서로를 잘 아는 끈끈한 공동체였다. 나는 좁은 골목길을 뛰어다니며 숨바꼭질을 하기도 하고, 지역 농부들이 신선한 과일과 채소를 파는 작은 시장에 가는 것도 좋아했다.

 

I moved to Seoul when I was seven years old. The transition was not easy because everything felt so different. The busy streets, tall buildings, and constant noise were overwhelming at first. In Hadong, I could hear the sounds of birds chirping in the morning, but in Seoul, all I could hear was the sound of cars and people talking loudly. It took me some time to adjust to city life, but eventually, I started to appreciate the new experiences and opportunities that Seoul had to offer.

나는 7살 때 서울로 이사했다. 처음에는 모든 것이 너무 달라서 적응하기 쉽지 않았다. 바쁘게 움직이는 거리, 높은 빌딩, 끊임없이 들리는 소음이 처음에는 나를 압도했다. 하동에서는 아침마다 새들이 지저귀는 소리를 들을 수 있었지만, 서울에서는 자동차 소리와 사람들의 큰 목소리만 들렸다. 새로운 환경에 익숙해지는 데 시간이 걸렸지만, 점차 서울에서만 경험할 수 있는 다양한 기회와 경험들을 즐기게 되었다.

 

 

Chapter 2: Life in the City

(제 2장: 도시에서의 삶)

We live in a nice area with many shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Our neighborhood is always lively, and there is always something happening. I love the convenience of having everything I need within walking distance. There are supermarkets, coffee shops, bookstores, and even small parks where I can relax. Despite the city’s fast pace, our apartment complex provides a sense of stability and comfort.

우리가 사는 곳은 가게, 식당, 그리고 다양한 상업 시설이 많은 좋은 지역이다. 우리 동네는 항상 활기가 넘치고, 늘 무언가가 일어나고 있다. 필요한 모든 것이 걸어서 갈 수 있는 거리에 있어서 매우 편리하다. 슈퍼마켓, 카페, 서점뿐만 아니라 잠시 쉬어갈 수 있는 작은 공원도 있다. 도시의 빠른 속도 속에서도, 우리가 사는 아파트 단지는 안정감과 편안함을 제공해준다.

My neighbors in our apartment are generally friendly, quiet, and pleasant to live with. I enjoy greeting them in the morning and exchanging small talk whenever we meet in the elevator or hallway. The sense of community here is not as strong as in Hadong, but I still appreciate the little connections we share. Sometimes, during holiday seasons, our neighbors exchange small gifts or homemade food, which reminds me of the warmth of my hometown.

우리 아파트의 이웃들은 대체로 친절하고 조용하며 함께 살기에 좋은 사람들이다. 아침마다 인사를 나누고, 엘리베이터나 복도에서 마주칠 때 짧은 대화를 하는 것도 즐겁다. 하동만큼 강한 공동체 의식은 없지만, 그래도 우리가 공유하는 작은 연결들은 소중하게 느껴진다. 가끔 명절이 되면 이웃들끼리 작은 선물이나 직접 만든 음식을 주고받기도 하는데, 그럴 때마다 내 고향의 따뜻함이 떠오른다.

 

Chapter 3: My Hometown and Its People

(제 3장: 나의 고향과 그곳의 사람들)

 

My hometown is too far from where I live, so I want to buy a small apartment somewhere between my current house and my hometown. I often feel nostalgic about the simpler days in Hadong. Life in a small town had its own rhythm—slower but more peaceful. People there were hardworking, yet they always made time for their families and friends.

내 고향은 지금 사는 곳에서 너무 멀기 때문에, 현재 집과 고향의 중간쯤에 작은 아파트를 사고 싶다. 가끔 하동에서 보냈던 단순했던 나날들이 그리워진다. 작은 마을에서의 삶은 천천히 흘렀지만, 그만큼 더 평온했다. 사람들은 성실하게 일했지만, 항상 가족과 친구들을 위한 시간을 내는 여유를 가졌다.

 

People in my hometown were no different from the people in any other large city. There were good and bad people. Like everyone else, they tried to make a good life for themselves and their children. Parents worked hard to ensure their children received a good education. Even though Hadong was a small town, education was highly valued.

내 고향 사람들은 다른 대도시 사람들과 다를 바 없었다. 좋은 사람도 있었고 나쁜 사람도 있었다. 하지만 모두가 자신과 자녀들을 위해 더 나은 삶을 만들기 위해 노력했다. 부모들은 자녀가 좋은 교육을 받을 수 있도록 열심히 일했다. 비록 하동은 작은 마을이었지만, 교육의 가치는 매우 중요하게 여겨졌다.

 

 

Chapter 4: The Beauty and History of My Hometown

(제 4장: 나의 고향의 아름다움과 역사)

My hometown is very famous for its traditional village. It has been well-known for its well-educated village schools called Seodang since the Joseon dynasty. Even today, you can see old hanok houses preserved in their original state, attracting many visitors who want to experience the history and culture of the region.

내 고향은 전통적인 마을로 매우 유명하다. 조선 시대부터 서당이라 불리는 학구적인 마을 학교로 잘 알려져 있다. 오늘날에도 옛 한옥들이 원형 그대로 보존되어 있으며, 지역의 역사와 문화를 체험하고 싶어 하는 많은 방문객들이 찾는다.

 

It’s also a great place to live. The infrastructure is well-maintained, and my hometown is very clean and tidy. The surrounding nature adds to its charm, with scenic mountains, beautiful rivers, and clear skies that make you appreciate the simple joys of life.

또한, 살기 좋은 곳이다. 기반 시설이 잘 유지되어 있고, 마을 전체가 깨끗하고 정돈되어 있다. 주변 자연 환경 또한 매력을 더해 준다. 멋진 산, 아름다운 강, 맑은 하늘을 보며 삶의 단순한 즐거움을 다시금 깨닫게 된다.
